When you are no longer attached to drinking––emotionally, psychologically, physically––you will be done with alcohol. It will no longer be on your radar screen. Or, if you have been a problem drinker and not an alcoholic you will reach a point where your consumption of alcohol is minimal and done in conjunction with other activities such as, having a glass or two of wine with your dinner, or a cocktail or two with friends. Once you're 'clear' and not dependent on alcohol it becomes just another of life's many joys and pleasures.
Of course, if you're an alcoholic then you will realize you just can't drink alcohol. For you it is a disease. Because whenever you consume even the smallest amount your body and your mind go haywire. For you it is a poison.
Of course, there are those who will argue that any amount of alcohol consumption is consuming poison. As Mark Twain said, 'Differences of opinion is what makes horse races.' In the end, you have to decide for yourself, and decide from a place of integrity, how you want to interact with alcohol. But, in and of itself, alcohol is not the demon. The demon is the response and reaction we have to alcohol. If you're using alcohol to run away from the issues in your life; if you're using alcohol to get drunk; if you're using alcohol to bury pain, then alcohol is not serving you; it is harming you and you are abusing alcohol. Actually, you're not abusing alcohol; you're abusing yourself and using alcohol to do it.
