The consequences of alcohol misuse are serious--in many cases, life-threatening. Heavy drinking can increase your risk for many health problems––cancer, especially cancers of the liver, esophagus, throat, and larynx, and tongue). Alochol is known to also cause cirrhosis of the liver, immune dysfunctions, brain damage, and others.
Drinking also increases the risk of injury and death from vehicle accidents, on-the-job accidents, and increases the likelihood of homicide and suicide. Alcohol problems cost the U.S. over $100 billion per year. And the cost to healthy living, and healthy relationships is too large to measure.
